The grape source is the Red Cedar Vineyard in Paso Robles. To create this wine, we utilized two different blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon fruit. The predominate block lies on a steep, sloping terrace of Rincon clay loam. It is unique, and features very well-drained soil, which must be heavily cover cropped for protection against erosion. The additional Cabernet Sauvignon fruit comes from a block which consists of fine sandy loam and is well-suited for growing wine grapes.

Vina Cobos is the Argentina winery of the renowned Paul Hobbs, best known for his namesake wines from California’s North Coast. Hobbs began consulting in South America in 1988 and, early on, became involved with Nicholas Catena in the startup of that winery’s Chardonnay program. In 1998 he temporarily left his consulting projects to start Vina Cobos with the first vintage coming in 1999. In 2005 Vina Cobos constructed its own winery.

The wine on the palate, is full bodied, with big tannic structure, deep complexity and concentration. The finish is elegant and long, lingering on the palate for many minutes.

The 2015 vintage perfectly expresses this behavioural trait. Born during a particularly balanced harvest season, 2015 is certainly one of the great Ornellaia vintages. The usual intense colour indicates a wine of great texture and intensity, followed by a fruity scent that is ripe and fresh at the same time, emphasized by classic balsamic and spicy hints. On the palate it is rich, dense, and full-bodied, with an exceptional tannic texture, dense and velvety, of great refinement, that extends throughout the mouth. Just bottled, the 2018 Le Difese is very pretty, and also the most refined vintage I can remember tasting here. Fresh and light on its feet, the 2018 is truly delicious. It is also the first vintage of this wine that really is in line with the house style. Having the ability to make this wine in the Bolgheri property rather than at a remote facility represents a major step up for San Guido.. March/2020 Intense black fruit aromas and flavors as well as the vanilla and spice of oak in a full-bodied wine with supple tannins. Fruit for Le Difese is selected from Tenuta San Guido estate’s younger vines. Fermentation for both varieties takes place on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wine is matured in French and American oak barrels. The reserva wines of Marqués de Riscal are made principally from Tempranillo vines which are over 15 years old. This is a variety that ages well in wood, producing wines with a good tannic structure, colour and acidity. . The reserva wines of Riscal spend approximately two years in American oak barrels, forming a wine that adheres to the principles of classic Rioja wines.

Saucy gamy berry aromas are sketchy and not fully convincing. This Tempranillo feel grabby and raw, while stalky berry flavors are less than fresh and finish herbal and dried out.
